Understanding Cultural Difference
Interpreting cultural interactions I may encounter.

What do you think will be especially difficult for you to adjust to in your host country?
- It will be difficult for me to adjust to speaking in my second language at all times.
What do you want to know about the culture in which you will be living in order to help guide your response?
- I would like to know what words are different in Spain compared the Spanish we learn in the States.
What might be some positive aspects of being in your host country, and how might this help compensate or ease some of the difficulties?
- I think being in a host home will help me a lot in progressing my Spanish to sound like a native.
In order to ease the transition and adapt to life overseas, you may need to make some temporary, yet fundamental concessions. What adjustments or changes are you willing to make?
- I am willing to have tough days and to be patient on myself to better learn the language.
What personal qualities do you think are important for adjusting to life abroad? Do you have these qualities?
- Patience and adaptability. I think I posses both of the qualities but it is hard for me to be patient on myself sometimes.
