Discussion Quote

Writer: Jessica TannJessica Tann

Out of the four quotes given I discuss why the one I chose represents my situation.

"If you wait for the perfect moment when all is safe and assured, it may never arrive. Mountains will not be climbed, races won, or lasting happiness achieved." - Maurice Chevalier

Signing up for study abroad was not an easy choice. It sounds so fun and exciting at first glimpse but there is so much more that comes with it than just seeing the world. There is a whirl of emotions that comes with leaving your normal life. You start to dread leaving the friends that make college so fun, missing out on all the events your clubs and organizations have, missing out on maybe the greatest basketball season your school will have (Wreck 'em!), and missing the comfort of your family. But I knew if I waited for a different 'perfect' time it would never happen.
The chance of a lifetime would have slipped through my fingers because I would have waited too long. There is never a 'perfect' time to say bye to your friends and family, just a time when you know you are too comfortable where you are. Being comfortable is so convenient, but it does not make me, or anyone, stand out. What's the harm in trying something new? You have everything to gain and nothing to lose by trying something new. I know by the end of this experience I will have no regrets and that normal life will just be waiting for me back at home.
