Practicing Spanish

Writer's picture: Jessica TannJessica Tann

Practicing Spanish based on the steps I have learned through Global Scholar.

1. Choose the article well.

Based on the website global scholar gave me I choose Spain news and then the region I will be studying in.

2. Predict the content.

I expect transportation to be discussed based on the title.

3. Skim through the article.

4. Scan the article in more depth. Underline the purpose of the article from the list below.

  • For and against an argument

  • Putting forward a point of view

  • Informing in a documentary manner using evidence (historical, scientific, etc.)

  • Recounting events

  • As an interview with one person

  • By interviewing a number of people

5. Work on the language.

First, make a list of topic-specific words and phrases which will come in useful when you are speaking or writing about a related topic.

  • el tren de alta velocidad

  • pasajeros

  • la estación

  • kilómetros

  • el transporte

Second, choose at least two of the techniques below that the author uses in the article. Copy a sentence from the article to illustrate the technique.

6. Write a letter to the editor.
