Understanding and planning my budget.

Financial Plan
What is the fee?
- ~ $18,383.20 (Attached below is the TTU official budget)
General Fees: academic fees; application fee; administrative fee; tuition and other academic fees; books and other supplies; computers: internet use fees, access to e-mail
- No application fee
- Administration fee, tuition, academic fees are included in TTU budget. (See below)
- WiFi is provided at my host home, most cafes, and inside the university. I need one book for my classes ($22) and used my previous class materials, including a laptop.
Accommodations/Food:
- All meals, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, are included intuition as well as housing up until May 9th, including holidays.
Transportation: round-trip transportation from the United States to the host country; transportation between the point of international entry and program site, if not included in the round-trip transportation fee; commuting costs to and from campus; program-related travel and excursions; optional travel (rail passes, etc.).
- My flight to Spain, including luggage (x3) and travelers insurance, was ~$500. Taxi to the hotel is about 20 Euros. Taxi to host home about 12 Euros. My flight back will probably be about $800. Taxi to the airport will be about 30 Euros.
- Commute to and from campus is within walking distance but if I choose to take the bus, a bus pass is included in tuition.
- Flights/Trains to and from other countries are pretty cheap, the expensive part is having a PCR test to leave the country. I will give about 3,000 Euros in traveling to accommodate hotels, PCR tests, food, and flights/train rides.
Travel Documents: passport fee; visa, if required; immunizations
- I had to renew my passport ($160) and buy a money order for my student visa ($160). I took my picture for my student visa in the International Cultural Center ($12). My COVID-19 vaccine was free of cost.
Insurance: health and accident insurance; traveler's insurance, for lost or stolen personal items.
- Health insurance is provided by Texas Tech. I did not have to purchase flight/travelers insurance since it was included in my flight payment. Did not purchase insurance for items that could be potentially be lost or stolen.
Miscellaneous: admission to cultural sites and events; gifts; fluctuating exchange rates; postage and phone calls; other program-related expenses.
- The international phone plan is 20 Euros a month. I do not plan on writing any letters.
- Cultural sites and events are covered by tuition. If I plan to do my own cultural sites I plan for about 200 Euros worth of cost. (Student tickets are very cheap)
- I will include about 200 Euros for gifts.
Personal: laundry; dry cleaning; personal care products.
- Laundry is done by the host mom which is included in the housing. Personal care products were all bought before leaving totaling about $150.
Additional: Clothing appropriate to the climate.
- 400 Euros for any additional shopping.
